Pointe Claire, a quiet community situated in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" area. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar with its meaning. They often believe it's an island located that lies west of Montreal, but the West Island encompasses everything between the cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay there was short. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa in Ontario. In her early years, she wanted to be the next big thing in her career, but a sudden growth spurt made it impossible. A Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. After I outgrew the male dancers, I decided to quit. There are many dancers who make the move into acting. For Brugel, it was her drama instructor who pushed her to go in this direction. The teacher recommended that she audition for an annual school play. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the school's annual production. She was given an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program and graduated at the age of 20 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. Over the past 20 years, her roles in the world of television and on the screen have been numerous. The role of Rita from the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel appeared only on rare instances in the initial season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian actor.
